This is an essential component of future human service practice. The purpose of this task is to explore and critically reflect upon your own beliefs regarding certain societal groups and what has influenced these. The task will also develop skills in writing in the first person by using a reflective format. Choose ONE of the following topics:

Using a reflective style of writing, in 750 words identify, describe and reflect on your beliefs in relation to your chosen group. It is a process by which you can make sense of your thoughts and actions and therefore understand yourself better so that you can build on your strengths. For this reason, reflective capacity is considered essential for health professionals. Your reflective task in 1006HSV is, therefore, an opportunity for you to develop your reflective skills. It provides you with the opportunity to think deeply about the ideas and beliefs you have developed as a result of past experiences. The questions provided are there to guide you through this reflective process. Your reflective writing should contain more than just a description of your thoughts and feelings. A good reflective essay is also analytical, which means that it addresses how or why questions, not just what questions.  This is why many of the questions are why questions. They assist you to evaluate your previous ideas and beliefs and to reflect on why your ideas may have changed, and how you will approach the future, particularly in your chosen profession.   This reflective writing task, like any other university writing task, requires appropriate formal language, correct spelling and punctuation. The first person is acceptable in a reflective writing task. However, avoid colloquial language (kids, mums etc). I am now aware that people become homeless for an array of reasons and not just because of substance abuse issues.
