Approach to Learning
This unit is one of many that provide opportunities for pre-service teachers to prepare for their future employment working within communities with children and their families.
BLENDED LEARNING This unit takes a flipped classroom approach with a combination of weekly online learn- ing activities (replacing lectures), readings, tutorials, research, community engagement interviews and groupwork collaboration contributing to your learning. Online learning enables you, as an independent learner, to engage with the key concepts and content in your own time and at your own pace. Your engagement with the online materials, and independent study, is essential to your successful completion of this unit and will ensure you can complete each assignment. Learning is a social practice and as a teacher you will be expected to collaborate with others. Therefore, a number of strategies have been embedded in the unit to prepare you for this way of working. You will be allocated to a group to complete the assignments and to promote learning through interaction. Each group will have an allocated vUWS page to collaborate, share ideas and exchange information. By participating in online discussions you willdeepen your knowledge and understanding as well as practice presenting an idea to others; this is a necessary skill for teachers.
