Your PDP should cover the following components:

  •  Overview of your career goals and objectives. Discuss how you plan to develop your project management competencies in the future. Include the subjects that you intend to study and the work experience to will need to gain to meet your overall development goals.
  •  Identification of the key leadership competencies that you need to develop in order to achieve your goals. You should choose no les than 4 and no more than 6 competencies relevant to your career. You can select your competencies from the PMBOK project management knowledge areas, or professional standards associated with your current od goal profession. Some examples of competencies you might consider: people management, risk management, planning, estimating, budgeting, communication, influencing, project control, project evaluation, project reporting, negotiation, conflict management, time management, etc.
  •  Assessment of the current level of chosen competencies, compared to the desired level. You need to provide justification for your assessment by describing the knowledge, experience and abilities associated with the assessed/goal competency levels. If you are using a known standard, use the definitions provided for each level of competency to compare it to your current/goal situation.
  •  Gap analysis between your current and future competency levels, resulting in an identification of necessary actions you need to include in your plan. Your gap analysis results and the identified actions will become the scope of your PDP.
  •  Your development (project) schedule, milestones and key deliverables
  •  Cost assessment, expenditure to-date, progress against schedule and the scope achieved as a demonstration of competencies achieved in this subject.
  •  Describe your management of risk, time, quality, communication, negotiation and procurement needed for you to achieve your planned career objectives
  •  Reflect on the team behaviours, effectiveness of communications and any changes you will make in subsequent units of study or work experience after this subject. Comment on your team’s competencies, areas of strength and weakness. Suggest any improvement changes you might have for team effectiveness and individual performance.
