• Introduce the topic and set the context for the study; describe complaining and let the reader know what you are investigating about it (i.e. your aim) and why (i.e. your rationale)
• Define; describe each of your chosen variables, using the literature
• Review the background literature and refer to relevant parts of the research articles that have found evidence of a relationship between each chosen variable and complaining.
• Explain how each variable relates to complaining, drawing on past literature
• What do you believe (especially, what does the research tell you) is the direction of each relationship – positive or negative?
• Theoretically, how does the literature propose complaining is related to each of these variables? Using the literature, try to explain the mechanism underlying the relationship!

- Conclude by stating your hypotheses, based on your literature review
- For each variable: Are you expecting to find a relationship? What direction – positive vs. negative?
