Justine, a very high potential candidate had grown to want more of her job as a business manager. After a few years in her chosen career, she wanted a drastic change, something new, different and most importantly creative. She goes from a career in business to embarking on a journey to becoming a fashion designer and achieves great gratification and success by opening her own business in Berlin.

Justine resides in the Establishment maxi-cycle in her career in business. She is experiencing complications concerning developmental tasks. Initially she had stabilized where she had obtained the job whilst acclimating to the demands of the organisation through her high levels of motivation and flexibility. She had been more than happy to work solely for recognition and thus completed duties to an adequate degree. However, Justine started to realise issues when it came to consolidating and advancing in her chosen career where she found she was highly dissatisfied with building co-worker relation as well as the hierarchy and process-oriented side of her job.
She wanted to be surrounded by creative minds which was absent in her current career. Moreover, when it came to contemplating advancement and subsequently greater levels of responsibility she had an aversion to the idea as she did not want to perform the same duties as bosses. The perceived limitations of her job and lack of goals are the key to her career transition point, from which she finds herself entering into a mini-cycle entailing, growth, exploration and then establishment in her new chosen occupation of fashion designer. Inspiration for her new career path primarily resides in the fact she wanted more creativity to be present in her life. She was surrounded by creativity and chaos as a child and missed that aspect in her humdrum, pragmatic, corporate profession.
Justine begins to formulate a career path on the basis of questioning what was gratifying in her previous job and how she could apply that into the primary aspect of a new career path. From this she could then moves into the next cycle of Exploration where she could crystallise, specify by finding which university she would study at, and how she would get there. And lastly, implementing, where she would have completed the proper training to enter the workforce and secured a position.
Holland’s Trait Perspective
In accordance with Hollands Theory of career choice, Justine’s personality type can be grouped within six that are based on common values, traits and abilities pertaining to particular job types. Originally, she would have been classed under conventional as a result of her upbringing. Between her mother being an artist and her father a craftsman along with being surrounded by friends of the same aptitudes she sought after paving her own path - in the completely opposite direction, one with more organisation and structure. She pursued a career in business management as it fulfilled her value for money as well as order. Additionally, she had the ability as she was highly motivated, flexible and had a strong willingness to learn.
A few years in however she starts to realise that she does in fact value creative minds, creativity and consequently being surrounded by these like-minded individuals. This is when Holland’s Theory would argue that Artistic had become Justine’s dominant type. This strong value and interest for being creative is what fuelled her to pursue a career in fashion design. The second conceivable type would be enterprising as she wanted to start up her own business as opposed to working from the bottom to the top. She wanted to be her own boss and liked understanding consumer demand and providing a product, which are traits of an enterprising type. Realistic could be a possible third type as she wanted something that she could do hands on and when choosing an institute to gain the proper qualifications she wanted something that was very practical based. From this, we can infer that Justine is an AER type.

Justine had an internal transition trigger where she realised that she wanted something completely different to her pragmatic job. There is a strong connection between Artistic-Enterprising-Realistic types and fashion designing and thus the change in her three code type would have lead her in that direction. Her ability to excel in her previous career shows her resilience and with the new career path, one that aligns with her core values, she excelled even further.
