Assignment Task

Overview

Students will work together to analyze a case study on contemporary workplace issues in the context of management theory. The Team Case Study consists of a written report, a presentation, and peer feedback as part of the assessment.

Purpose: is to produce a written report for the management of an organization that sets the tone, values and organisational culture for management and new leaders, along with actions/recommendations for management and new leaders to consider. It is important to highlight both the practical aspects of the case and recommendations, along with the theories that support them.

Team Case Study – Leadership Lessons of a Company that Boomed during the Pandemic

The global COVID-19 pandemic saw the world thrown into lockdowns and social distancing. Unable to go to work, school, university, and many other places, it was apparent that we needed a way of communicating and collaborating with many stakeholders, i.e., colleagues, customers, friends, businesses, shops, teachers, etc

The company was founded in early 2000 with the mission to deliver happiness and bring teams together through effortless video technology. As a result of the pandemic, between 2019 and 2020, business increased at a significant rate, also translating to a rise in customers and operational activities.

The founder and CEO shared several leadership lessons which include the following: 1. You should always be evolving as a leader

2. Always do what is right

3. Lead by example when creating a company culture

4. Create a customer care culture for success

Task

The organisation has gone through significant change with the dramatic increase in business within such a short period of time. Thinking about the people and organisation subject, your team is tasked with writing a report for management and new leaders of the organisation. The objective is to highlight the organisation's desired leadership strategies, vision, and values by using management and organisational theory to raise awareness and garner commitment.

Business is to prepare a report that:

1. Recognises and critiques contemporary leadership and organisational theory for two of the above leadership lessons:

• Required theoretical inclusions are: leadership approaches, organisational culture, communication, politics and ethics 
• A critique includes positives as well as limitations o Include the benefits to different stakeholders (such as: the workforce, customers, suppliers, etc.)

2. Provide clear and specific actions/recommendations that management and new leaders could implement for the selected leadership lessons (supported by references/sources).

3. Develop your own mission statement for the organisation that reflects the tone of the leadership lessons.

4. You can create your own name for the organisation, management structure and other details. Please do not try to research and identify the organisation this case is built on. The idea is for you to take the ideas and create your own narrative.
