IT Project Management Assessment Answer
Assignment Task:
This assessment is completed in a Group environment and provides team members with an opportunity to prepare a
Project Proposal for an IT project, similar to what they will be expected to deliver in the workplace. This assessment
is divided into two parts.
This assignment is aimed at assessing most of the learning outcomes expected in this unit in a team environment. At the completion of the group assignment, a report needs to be submitted. The assignment involves creating a detailed project proposal that outlines the proposed solution for an IT project.
For the first part of the proposal, you need to write a Preliminary Project Proposal (Business Case) with the following content:
– A cover page with your team name, team details, and the project title
– An Abstract or Executive Summary (one page)
– Table of Contents
– Problem Description the problem, the project scope, Non-Functional requirements, functionalities envisaged,
i.e. business requirements and the structure of the rest of the report

2. Alternative Solutions
3. Costs and Benefits
4. Project Estimation (including WBS)
– Conclusion, Future Work, Plans for Extension
– Appendix
– Team Details
For the second part of the proposal, you need to write a Project Proposal with the following content:
– A cover page with your team details and the title for your project
– An Abstract or Executive Summary (one page)
– Table of Contents
– Problem Description - the project, its importance, business requirements and the structure of the rest of the report
– Project Methodology and Product Analysis
1. A detailed description of the solution or prototype (see below)
2. Technologies Used
3. Project Schedule (Gantt Chart and Network Diagram)
4. Resource Planning
5. Budgeting
– User Guide
– Conclusion, Future Work, Plans for Extension
– Individual Reflections (approx. 250 words from each team member)
– Appendices as necessary
The form of the detailed description of your project is for you to decide. Make sure that you give sufficient and accurate information so that the reader understands how you worked and what you have achieved. Use screenshots and diagrams, as necessary. The database schema, class diagrams and other technical details for the prototype design (product analysis and design) should go into Appendices. Identify clearly any assumptions you made, as well as the areas of difficulty you encountered and your solutions to them.
Individual Reflections should be about your own experience in completing this project, what you liked about it and about project management in general, what in your opinion should have been dealt with in more details and any other relevant observations. Make sure that you include all the individual reflections in your submission. The format of this report should be similar to part one. The second part of the proposal has 30% of the mark. The deadline for the second part of the proposal is 11:59 pm on Friday of Week 12.
Class Participation and Progress Report -
While groups are working on the projects, each student presents the progress of the project weekly or during the tutorials. This may include a short presentation and/or a draft of the final report. In one stage, each group should present their report including an alpha version of the prototype to the whole class. This part has 10% of the mark.
Making a Group -
For your group assignment, you need to:
1. Talk to your classmates about your interest as well as your strengths and weaknesses during the class.
2. Sign up for your group (max of 5 per group) before 11:59 pm, Friday of Week 4. You are not allowed to change groups after you’ve signed up. You need to submit a form to make a group through vUWS.
3. Work on your group assignment on a regular basis and provide the progress report as requested.
