Highlights
Task: Table 1 contains annual maximum flow data for Station 204017 at Bielsdown Creek at Dorrigo Number 2 & Number 3 in NSW State. Carry out the following tasks using R program:
1. Fit four different probability distributions (Normal, EV1, P3, and GEV) to the given annual maximum flow data to estimate 1% AEP flood discharge at the site.
2. Compare the estimated flood quantiles in (1) above with the estimate by a non-parametric method. For this, select an appropriate non-parametric flood frequency analysis method.
3. Recommend an appropriate flood discharge from the above results to be used for the design of a bridge just upstream of Station 204017.
Based on the above tasks, prepare a project report having the below structure: The report should contain the following sections.
Introduction: It should contain a general statements, objectives of the project and structure of the report. (Relative weight in marking: 5%)
Literature review: It should contain a critical review of the concept and method used with reference to at least 10 published journal papers on the subject matter. Journal papers can be found from: http://scholar.google.com.au/. (Relative weight in marking: 25%)
Methodology: It should include the equations and methods adopted in the project analysis. Every equation should be typed using Equation editor, and every equation should be numbered. A flow chart of the methodology adopted might be useful. (Relative weight in marking: 20%) Results and discussion: It should present the results in tabular form, graphs and in other formats, as appropriate. Discuss results with reference to each figure and table. Make sure tables and figures have titles and these are numbered. Discuss overall findings. Provide limitations of the method. Attach R codes in the appendix. (Relative weight in marking: 30%)
Conclusion: It should summarise the report, gives major findings and limitations and scope of further improvement.
