Cameras can be used to identify the road lane markings to guide vehicles to drive within the lane markings. 1. Road images with lane marking The developed method (with the same method and threshold values to work for all 4 cases) should be implemented using MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox. In particular, the developed method should automatically draw a line that indicates the trace of mid-points between the lane markings, indicated by “Driving path”, in each image. Students can approach this using following steps:

• Convert images to black and white with thresholding • Make each line solid by ‘dilating’ scatter lines

• Reduce the thickness of each solid line by ‘thinning’ process

• Using Hough Transform to work out the two most prominent lines
