Introduction
In national government, local government and commercial businesses, Aotearoa New Zealand has established a number of unique models of governance and commercial practices. Many of these have arisen since Iwi have received Te Tiriti o Waitangi(Treaty of Waitangi) settlements. These models include partnerships with businesses andorganisations within the greater Aotearoa New Zealand, and commercial partners with Australia, Japan, China, and other countries.
GROUP REQUIREMENTS: You are to form groups of 3-4 students. Also, this will be the same group that are part of the presentation (see Part B Group Oral Presentation).
Part A: Visual Poster will require you and your group to investigate and create a visual poster for one (1) M?ori business from the following list of M?ori organisations drawn from sectors across the country. Many of these businesses are community or social service providers because that has been the focus of M?ori development for the last 30 years but some are also successful organisations in the private sector.
M?ori Business Organisations
1. Ngati Whatua Orakei:
2. Kai ora Honey Ltd:
3. Parininihi Ki Waitotara Incorporation:
4. Whale Watch Kaikoura:
5. Ng?i Tahu Tourism:
6. Waikato Tainui – Tainui Group Holdings
7. Tuaropaki.com -
8. Tohu Wineshttps:
The poster is to cover:
1. Overview of the M?ori organisation and the organisation’s bi-cultural model.
2. Outline how Te Ao and/or tikanga M?ori (M?ori paradigm and/or culture) have been included in the mission statement, values, and structure of the organisation.
3. Make sure to include details on how iwi applies the bi-culturalpartnership to its business activities, and relationships.
Why a visual poster?
There has been a significant shift in the way businesses are presenting and communicated information to their customers and employees. Visual information, combined with text, is becoming the normal means of communication. Infographics is a good example (a Google search has 288,000,000 results). For business, the focus is increasingly on less-rather-than-more information.
Visual information and communication is evident in social media, where Facebook, Instagram and other platforms are exclusively visual.
Part A: Visual Poster of this assignment picks up on this momentum, and your task is to create a one page, landscape poster which will combine words / sketches / images.
This part of the assignment does not require you to be a talented artist. It does require you to think about the information you are presenting in your poster; discuss the important features of the acts; organise this into themes, and then create a visual /words poster.
There are some basic design rules to be applied to the assignment, and there are a number of links at the end of this document which you should access and read. Sources for the visual poster and visual learning resources will be discussed in class.
PART C: Written Report (INDIVIDUAL) – 20 marks
Lastly, you are to write an individual report discussing the items below. Minimum 600 words; maximum 900 words. You are to use the same M?ori business or organisation which you (and your group) have used for Part A and B.
• Your work is to be written in your own words and NOT cut and pasted and then edited. In-text citation and references should be provided in current APA (7th ed.) format.
• Word count: 600-900 word report.
• Use at least four references overall.
• Team Meeting Minutes in Appendix Section (not included in the word count)
The written report is to discuss the following:
Examine and discuss the following issues the M?ori business/organisation you and your group selected and researched have to deal with.
A. First discuss how over time the organisation has responded to Aotearoa New Zealand’s changing cultural awareness and heritage management both internally and externally.
B. Next, discuss the social contexts (social environment) the business/organisation is situated in.
C. Lastly, examine how the business/organisation has responded to the development of New Zealand’s economy. Include in your discussion the positive and negative aspects for the organisation of this development.
