Step-by-step procedure

Step 1:Students search for and select a suitable paper published in a (very) good accountancy journal (see journal list on Canvas). Only papers that use archival data to test the hypotheses are acceptable for this RS. Some papers with annotations from faculty will be available on Canvas to

(1) introduce students to some interesting research topics in accountancy and to

(2) provide student with tips on how to decide whether a particular paper is acceptable for this RS. These example papers cannot be selected for the RS. Note that also papers that are discussed in detail or that are part of an assignment in the course Empirical Research in Accounting will not be accepted for this RS.

Step 2: Students post some initial information on the selected paper on Canvas. The following items should be submitted in the template format on Canvas:

- Reference of the paper

- Research field

- Main hypothesis

- Dependent variable (with measurement info)

- Test variable (with measurement info)

- Data source in the original paper

- Chosen type of replication with short motivation

- Database that will be used for the replication study (see Canvas for info on databases)
