This assignment aims to provide you with an opportunity to explore the psychosocial development of children in more detail. This assignment supports unit learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.Assignment detailsThroughout the unit, you will examine psychological, social (psychosocial), cognitive and moral components of human development. Further, you will explore the relationship of these factors to the shaping of an individual’s self-concept. Commencing in infancy with attachment to parents and caregivers, psychosocial development, according to Erikson (in Hoffnung et al., 2019), continues throughout the lifespan and involves interactions with caregivers, peers, educators and the wider social context. This development may be influenced by a variety of normative (expected) and non-normative (deviations from usual) events or circumstances, which influence infant and early childhood development (Hoffnung et al., 2019).Important note: The two-part lecture on the social and cognitive development of children will be available under the Module 4 and Module 5 learning materials. These lectures will introduce the topic, provide examples to support your understanding and address the development of children in the age groups featured in the assignment (infants and early childhood). The lectures will also cover cognitive development, which may drive development in other domains.Module 4 is a scenario-based learning module, with reference to residents of a fictional village. The content of this scenario-based learning is relevant to the focus of your essay (early childhood between the ages of 2–5 years).ScenarioJulie is two-and-a-half years old and is attending day care three days a week for five hours a day while her mother Victoria works. Julie’s father, Tom, is a full-time shift worker and he cares for Julie regularly on his two days off each week. Victoria explains that Julie enjoys music, dancing and singing 'silly' songs with her dad, herself and their large extended family. Victoria is concerned that her daughter is not yet toilet trained during the day, especially since she has noticed that other children seem to have mastered this skill. Victoria also has a couple of concerns in relation to whether or not she should put her daughter into swimming lessons. The Child and Family Health Nurse has reassured Victoria that Julie is meeting all her milestones and will gain continence within the next 12 months or soon afterwards.
