You are performing experiments on two different types of animal models- normal Wistar rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). The spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) is is an animal model of essential (or primary) hypertension, used to study cardiovascular disease, with the Wistar rat as the normotensive control. Each experiment will be repeated three times.  You are going to be using Hexamethonium as anti-hypertensive medications.  You initially need to make up a 10 ml volume of 100 mg/ml for Hexamethonium.

•  How much of Hexamethonium do you need to weigh out?  Show all your workings out?

• Complete Table 1 by adding the amount of Hexamethonium to be injected for the rat.

As you will notice, we made some assumptions to simplify the data analysis: SHR and Witsar rats used for the experiments were of similar body weight, each rat was given saline to measure baseline AP and HR, and then injected increasing doses of Hexamethonium separated by appropriate time interval to allow full recovery to original baseline,

• From the Arterial Pressure data (AP) data provided in the above table, calculate the change of Arterial Pressure for each dose of Hexamethonium compared to Saline- Calculate Mean and Standard Errors- Use Table 2 for your calculations. 
• From the Heart rate (HR) data provided in the above table, calculate the change of Heart rate (HR) for each dose of Hexamethonium- Calculate Mean and Standard Errors- Use Table 2 for your calculations.     
• Plot a graph of means ± standard errors for Mean AP change for SHR and Witsar rats against the doses of Hexamethonium.    
• Plot a graph of means ± standard errors for HR change for SHR and Witsar rats against the doses of Hexamethonium.
