The following experiment was conducted to examine the precision of estimation of the calcium content of spinach plants. Four plants were randomly selected from a large population, then three leaves were randomly selected from each plant. From each leaf, two samples of 100 mg were taken, and the percentage calcium concentration was determined by chemical analysis.

(b) Obtain an ANOVA table for this experiment; include an E[MS] column. Is there more variation among plants than within plants? Is there more variation among leaves within a plant than within leaves?
(c) Estimate each of the variance components in the model, and express each as a percentage of the total estimated variation.
(d) Suppose that the four plants in this table were all taken at the same locality. Also suppose that this species of plant occurs at a wide range of localities, and a "random sample" of five localities was taken and four plants were taken at each locality. The data in the table would represent the results for one of the five localities. Specify the
model equation for this experiment and all assumptions.
