Examination conditions
This is a take-home exam. Your responses to the five short-answer essay questions should be recorded into a word document and submitted to the final submission point on Blackboard after checking the document in SafeAssign on the 7012EHR course website. The due date for your responses to the take-home exam is 28th May 2020 by 5pm (Brisbane time). Examination responses returned after this date and time are not able to be accepted.
Instructions to students
There are 5 short-answer questions included in this examination. Each question is worth 7 marks (total marks for the short-answer questions is 35 marks). You should answer all 5 short-answer questions. It is expected that your response to each question should be between 1 to 1.5 pages in length (single-spaced). There is no need to provide an introduction or conclusion when answering the questions and in fact you should not do so. You should draw on journal articles and lecture materials that we reviewed in class when answering the five short-answer questions. You need to ensure that you reference any academic material that you refer to appropriately using the APA 6th edition referencing style.
Short-answer Essay Questions
Q1. Organisational development (OD) provides the foundation of modern thinking about change management. A key element of the OD approach to change management is a focus on process consultation. Define process consultation and discuss the underlying assumptions of a process consultation approach when interacting with clients and implementing change. Discuss why OD identifies this change agent approach as critical to the success of planned organisational change efforts.
Q2. Diagnosis is a critical step in the change implementation process model. Define what diagnosis is. Discuss in detail two diagnostic tools that may be used during an organisational change process. Describe how these tools would be applied during a change process. Outline when it would be appropriate to use the different diagnostic tools that you have identified.
Q3. Dunphy and Stace’s (1993) Contingency Model of Change Leadership identifies three key elements that need to be considered when selecting an appropriate type of leadership during change. Describe the key aspects of this model in detail and outline which types of leadership this model identifies as appropriate during different types of change and why this is the case.
Q4. Shuffler et al. (2011) distinguish two types of team development interventions. Define and discuss the two types of team development activities they identify. Discuss the different emphases and aims of these two sets of activities. Consider how effective are each of the team development activities are based on the evidence that Shuffler et al. examine.
Q5. Discuss how Nicholas (1979) defines the evaluation stage of an organisational change process. Discuss the framework that Nicholas presents when considering how evaluations should be planned (make sure you consider the questions that need to be asked when planning an evaluation). Identify the reasons that Nicholas presents as to why evaluation planning should begin at the start of a change process.
