This Occupational Case Report builds on the previously completed LMS/JTA Report. The purpose of this assessment item is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the:
• application of theory to practice in job placement;
• use of occupational information for job placement.
Effective completion of this item, the job analysis and labour market survey requires students to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, both written and oral, research and analytical skills, and considerable initiative to obtain the necessary data required. In this context it is aimed at assisting students in their acquisition of generic learning skills as well as those specific competencies needed to work as a rehabilitation counsellor.
Students will select an occupation of interest to them within the first 2 weeks of the trimester and advise the lecturer of their choice. They will then be given a case study of a person with a disability.
The Occupational Case Report provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of how the student would assist the person to successfully achieve placement with the employer interviewed for the LMS/JTA report.
Key Components of the Occupational Case Report
The report will consist of the following information:
1. An introduction to the occupation, employer and client;
2. A detailed description of a strategy for placing the client into the occupation. It should include:
• A description of (a) a career development theory; (b) a model of job placement and; (c) a business model, and how each of these would inform your placement approach and strategy;
• A placement plan that includes a goal; objectives to achieve the goal; action steps, timeframes and people responsible to achieve the objectives;
• Techniques you would use to achieve placement. Techniques are the practical steps you would take to make the placement happen, including ideas for convincing an employer to employ your client. Creativity is important here. For example, is there something you learned about workplace culture that you could use to facilitate a possible placement?;
• A description of considerations to assist the client to sustain this position and to support their longer-term career development.
