Description: Students are required to write a report of approximately 8,000 or equivalent (in-text references and reference list are included in the word count) on their chosen topic/project in the format appropriate for their project. The work may be presented in various formats including research report, service or program evaluation, a systematic literature review, intervention effectiveness review, journal manuscript or an alternate output approved by the course convenor.

The format of the Final report is agreed upon and approved through Workplan (assessment item 1). In case there need to changes to the format of the Final report after the Workplan has been approved, the proposed changes need to be discussed with and approved by the course convenor. Regardless of the format of the Final report, it will likely include the following sections:
1. Abstract or an executive summary
2. Background and rationale
3. Aim/objectives or research questions
4. Methods
5. Results
6. Discussion
7. Conclusion and practical implications for public health of this project
Depending on the project being undertaken, the Final report assessment criteria is subject to change, including the word count, or relevance/size of some of the report sections. For example, if the student chose to write it up as a manuscript for an academic journal, then it needs to be prepared in line with the targeted journal requirements (in such instances, students are required to clearly indicate the journal, and include the Guidelines for Authors of that journal as an appendix to their Final report). Or for instance, if it is in a traditional literature review format - methods section may be very brief or not required, while projects involving collection of primary data would require a more substantial methods section. Results and discussions sections can be combined where appropriate (e.g. qualitative papers).
