1a Introduction to the module
The module provides an understanding of online business and explores potential applications and e-business trends. Specifically, it examines: the development of e-commerce components; e-commerce as part of a company’s total profile; the various applications of e-commerce, including e-commerce marketing the internal and external effects of e-commerce; the international applications of e-commerce; the strategic advantages that can be gained through e-commerce; the underlying payment systems; and privacy and security issue.
2a Module aims
• Provide opportunities for students to prototype e-commerce sites, promote, optimise, explore analytics and business intelligence techniques
• Enable students to appraise critically electronic commerce solutions within the panoply of business strategies
2b Learning Outcomes

4 How StudyNet will be used to support this module
The learning outcomes will be achieved by a combination of attendance at lectures, seminars, group discussions, interactive media, online collaboration tools, specified further reading and also by completion of class exercises and coursework. Students will be introduced to topics and examples of practice during the lectures; they also will be given the opportunity to develop transferable skills and to discuss the material presented in the lectures. Students are expected to undertake relevant reading, additional practice and work towards assessments and other self-directed study.

6a Assessment details to include:
All aspects of the module are potentially examinable. The purpose of the assessment is to test whether, and to what extent, you have achieved the learning outcomes for the module. Assessment criteria specify what it is that you will be assessed against and what in general terms you will need to demonstrate in your assessed work in order to achieve the specified grades. One overarching principle applies to your assessment: your work must be original and critical.
The module is assessed 100% by coursework of which 70% is for individual work (approx 50 hours) and 30% for group work. (approx 20 hours).
Individual Coursework details
The first piece of coursework requires students to compare and contrast customer journeys that start with a customer need, and include online search, evaluation, purchase and post purchase stages of two different e-commerce websites of their choice.
This report will provide the basis for Assignment 2 (Group Work) where students will be developing a promotional strategy for an e-commerce company based on a customer journey developed in the first individual report.
The module learning outcomes assessed for this assignment are:

Below are the following: a) details of the task you are asked to complete, and b) guidance on what you are asked to submit.
A) THE REPORT – WHAT YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO SUBMIT
You are required to submit a written report of 1500 words (+/- 10% - not including reference list). You are encouraged to refer to the document “CASE Guide to Report Writing”. You might use the headings shown in this briefing or you may use your own headings; what is important is that you clearly cover all areas outlined below in a way that can be marked. You can be as creative as you like in using visuals, graphs and charts to present your data and analysis.
Your report structure and the marking scheme is provided below:
SECTION 1 - Title page: This should include the following: your name, ID, course details, Module Title, Module Code, The Module leaders name, deadline date and word count
CONTENTS PAGE: your report should contain page numbers and you should include these in a clear contents page. The structure of the report needs to look professional (10 marks available).
Introduction - Provide a brief paragraph outlining what your assignment will cover and how you decided what to cover. (nb as normal, the report should be written in the third person).
SECTION 2 - Main Findings, Analysis and Conclusions: explain the nature of the business, customers and the industry you are covering, customer engagement activities both inside and outside of the website that companies employ followed by features including navigation and calls to actions from search to post purchase activities of customers (30 marks).
Your analysis and conclusions must comprise clear and well-defined summaries that are supported with discussions and justifications comparing and contrasting customer journeys for your chosen companies. These analyses should offer a thorough investigation of activities both inside and outside of ecommerce websites which must be supported by theoretical models of customer shopping journeys (40 marks).
You are expected to use credible and up to date reference sources about the e-commerce industry as evidence of commercial practices and to provide a theoretical underpinning to your analysis and discussions. (15 marks).
SECTION 3 – References and bibliography - You must reference all sources using the CASE Harvard Referencing Guide. You should aim for a minimum of ten credible academic reference sources but we would expect more (5 marks).
