Assignment Task

Write a word report analysing and evaluating an organisation's competitive situation and identifying strategic issues and priorities that need management attention.

The assessment can be based on your current, previous or future potential workplace, or any other organisation from the service, not-for-profit, public, manufacturing, or any other industry or sector you are familiar with that is of professional or personal interest. You will use the same organisation/company in assessment 2.

Procedure

1. Briefly describe your organisation and industry context. Include relevant information only, e.g. company name, product/service, key customers, markets, domestic/international, industry size, growth trends etc.

2. Evaluate the alignment of the vision, mission, and values statements against your organisation's existing strategic objectives. Discuss the implications and make recommendations on how they can be improved.

3. Apply Porter's Five Forces framework to assess your organisation's industry and competitive environment (Porter's Five Forces analysis template). Present your Porter's Five Forces as a table or figure and report the key findings and insights from the analysis.

4. Apply the VRIN (or VRIO) test to assess the organisation's resources, capabilities, and competitiveness (VRIN Framework analysis template). Present your VRIN (or VRIO) analysis in a table and discuss the key points.

5. Perform a SWOT analysis to identify your chosen organisation's strengths, business opportunities, threats, and weaknesses (SWOT analysis template). Present your SWOT analysis as a table and report the key findings and insights from the analysis.

6. Using the insights from Porter's Five Forces and VRIN (or VRIO) frameworks and SWOT analysis, identify and briefly explain three critical strategic issues that are priorities the organisation needs to address to be competitive.
