Highlights
In this final piece of assessment, students must write a research essay answering one of the questions below. A research essay is an essay that answers a question using information gathered from scholarly research.
The most important things to remember when working on this essay are
1. Why are the legacies of colonialism still being felt in Australia today and how can we better respond to them?
2. How was it possible for Australia to transform from a racially exclusive society to a racially inclusive society? In Australia today, how complete has this transformation been?
3. Australia is enmeshed in a complex set of economic, strategic, and cultural relations with China and the United States. How can Australia foster good relations with each while pursuing its independence between these two rival powers?
4. What dangers does climate change present to Australia and is Australia doing enough to address these?
5. Australians have long held the ‘fair go’ to be an economic and social ideal. Is Australia today still the land of the fair go?
6. Your own question. Students may, with approval from the Unit Chair, compose their own essay question on a topic that relates to unit content.
