Additionally the paper will also discuss the control measure that are being used to avoid corrosion on marine vessels, which helps in adding years to the life of the vessel and also avoid major accidents which may be due to corrosion of different parts and machineries of the vessel.

INTRODUCTION
There are number of material available for selection for constructing various system but selecting a proper material for a specific task is work of a design engineer. In ship industry, selection of metals for ship building and various systems is largely on the basis of the physical and mechanical property but selection of material on the basis of its interaction with environment can’t be ignored. Various metals reacts with their environment according to their chemical composition. Vessels majorly operates in sea water and uses seawater for all tasks such as in ballast water, heat exchanger, firefighting and the vessels itself floats in seawater. All these systems are subjected to seawater and corrosion resulting from seawater environment.
