Highlights
Part A - Sketching the sculpture
Your task is to create a sculpture that will be used as a new monument in the School Quad. The details of the sculpture you design must follow the requirements below.
The sculpture must contain a variation of the following shapes.
Each shape must touch the flat surface of another shape when creating your sculpture.
Your sculpture must have between 4 and 6 shapes, and at least two of the shapes must have a curved surface. In total, your sculpture must have 4 different shapes.
Question 1
a) You are to draw (by hand) a diagram of your sculpture which is to be drawn on Grid Paper with a scale of 1cm : 30cm
b) Outline a square or rectangular area to place your sculpture between the yellow rectangle in the below image. A scale has been provided.
Part B - Finding the surface area and volume
Question 2
For this section of the assignment, you are required to find your sculpture's surface area and volume.
a) Calculate the Total Surface Area of the sculpture you have designed. Ensure you include all calculations and show all of your working. You must clearly outline the faces in your working/calculations.
b) Calculate the total volume of the sculpture you have designed. Ensure to include all calculations and show all of your working. You must clearly outline the shapes in your working/calculations.
Part C - Cost of the sculpture
a) Calculate the total cost of the materials for building the sculpture. You must research and choose a material to determine its cost when completing your calculations. To complete this, ensure you find the total weight of your sculpture. You must reference where you found the information and show all of your working.
b) A cylindrical concrete stand needs to be built for the sculpture; the dimensions for the stand must be 60cm high and 50cm wider than any part of the sculpture. Calculate the cost of the stand, assuming concrete is $250 per cubic metre.
c) Assuming the sculpture has to be lifted in by crane onto the stand, calculate the total cost of using the crane if the cost is $34/kg.
d) What is the total cost of the sculpture and installation?
