Report Writing Assignment:

Task: Social Work is undertaken in different ways for different purposes in different organisations. No matter the organisation, when a social worker is employed they are employed to practice their skills as social workers in those different environments. Given the diversity of social work practice, this task is designed to get you to think about the specific nature of the social worker role within the organisation within which you are placed. It is designed to get you to consider what social workers actually do within this context and why it is important that these tasks are undertaken by a social worker rather than a lawyer, doctor, teacher or volunteer. How does this fit with what I have done before: In the assessment items for SOAD9060: Social Work Theory you have undertaken similar systems based analysis. In that topic, you were asked to assess a case study and evaluate it using systems analysis and tools – in this case you are asked to focus on the role of the social worker in your organisational environment and evaluate the nature of that role. Relationship to Integration seminar: This assessment item is designed to be coordinated with integration seminar 3: “Social Worker does what…….”. 1. Explore the social work role within your placement organisation 2. Collect data that evidences the roles, tasks and authority of the social worker within your organisation. Your organisation may have formal documentation (such as a position description) that defines legally what is required of a social work position. If there is no social worker role at your placement then look at the AASW Code of Ethics and reflect on what a social worker role can look like in your placement; how are you shaping a social worker role by being there? You may like to record your data, and store it, in your Professional Journal as evidence of your research into your organisation and practice. 3. Consider how you feel that you currently fit with the role of social worker as it is undertaken in your placement. Is this the type of social work that you would like to undertake? 4.
