Assignment Task

Purpose

Enables students to demonstrate their ability to learn and work collaboratively. It will assess their understanding of the impact of colonization and the activism and resistance by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, within a human rights framework and the implications for social work practice.

In assigned groups students will create a group presentation (video, live panel or PowerPoint presentation) discussing a key area of activism for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Your presentation should include:

• Information about your activism topic ( Lives Matter ) and the impacts of colonization it responds to

• Consideration of how whiteness maintains damaging colonial discourses about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• Use of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to challenge those deficit discourse and promote the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• Understanding of how the Ngurra of Reflexive and Critical practice can subsequently inform your practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
