Case study :

Kayla Pfeiffer Is an 11-year-old Aboriginal Australian girl who presents to the Emergency Department with her mother 

Medical history:
Asthma - currently treated with Salbutamol Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) 100 microgram/puff, PRN

Surgical history: Nil

Social history-
Kayla's parents are separated. She lives with her mother and grandmother one week and her father the other week. Kayla attends the local primary school most days. She enjoys netball and playing with her two dogs when at her mother's home.

Subjective doto:
When Kayla presented to the emergency department. Kayla states that she "can't breathe right". Kayla's mother states she started coughing "about one or two days ago" and that Kayla "had a couple of puffs of her puffer because "she is coughing up stuff". You note that Kayla looks pale, anxious and Is using accessory muscles.

I. Discuss current evidence-based acute child asthma management practices in Australia in the context of this case study.
2. Discuss your assessment of Kayla, plan of care while in hospital, direct nursing care and prevention of future presentations. In your discussion, you are to include rationales for proposed interventions (actions) using quality, current evidence-based research.
