Q1. The security officers at a Local Government Offices are used to filling out paper forms to process reports about a range of security violations. They have little or no experience in using computers. The Local Government has decided to implement a relational database
system. The system is capable of processing a large amount of data to give officers the information they need to identify more effectively the targeted perpetrators of violations. Initially, the Local Government rolled out an Analysis and Reporting system that provided
time and location records about violations. The officers hated it, complaining that the system was not user-friendly, that approval from supervisors was complex and involved multiple screens, and that they did not feel properly trained on the system. After listening to the officers’ complaints for a year, the Local Government clearly had to do something.
Required
a. Identify at least two system analysis and design problems.
b. Describe the steps the local government could take now to improve the systems
performance and user acceptance.
Q2. Ethical issue
Required
A successful family company is considering going public and being listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. However if listed they would not want to release a lot of financial information to, or have interference from shareholders. Using the stakeholder analysis framework described in Chapter 1, determine if there is/are an ethical dilemma (s) in withholding information from shareholders in this situation.
