Introduction
This joint coursework (CW) assignment is for ACCO1114 and ACCO1115 (i.e. the mark will be entered as the CW mark in both modules). The CW is worth 40% of the total assessment for each module. For most students, the assignment will be submitted to ACCO1114 only on Moodle. Note: Students taking only AFA will submit to ACCO1115 Advanced Financial Accounting. This only applies to students who are repeating AFA.
You are required to use your analytical and writing skills in order to produce a professional and qualitative CIA essay CW. The skills you learn will be transferable to other assignments, your future career and especially Masters studies.
You will be required to work independently to produce a critical analysis of the topic. You will be supported through three fortnightly CW support classes.
The coursework support classes have been designed to help you prepare to write your essay. Therefore engagement with these is highly recommended.

Task 1 -
Identify one of the research articles which you will analyse in your essay

Task 2 –

Submit a short analysis of the starter CW article (see below) and the article which you identified in Task 1.

Requirements for Essay
This is an essay about a current issue in accounting and so your articles must be as up-to-date as possible. Therefore most of the articles which you analyse should have been published in the past 5 years. However, 1 or 2 articles published 5-10 years ago may be included if they are appropriate to the discussion in your essay and their findings remain relevant.
The topic is a current issue in accounting and therefore, in addition to your academic references, you should include a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 references to professional sources. Examples include, but are not restricted to, publications by the International Accounting Standards Board, professional accounting bodies and big accounting firms.
You may want to use sub-headings based on a few themes. This might help you to organise your work while you are writing, enabling you to produce a better structure and logical flow to your argument. However, remember that this is an academic essay and not a report so do not use too many headings and do not include a contents list.
