(CVDA), a business association which is tasked with developing knowledge and tools for local businesses of all sizes, provide advice and networking opportunities for local business owners and to work on strengthening and expanding the local economy which is heavily reliant on wine, primary production and tourism (including hospitality). The CVDA has hired the firm in which you are serving a UniSA industry placement to conduct a pilot study on three businesses to specifically explore common management accounting issues. The CVDA feels that management accounting is an under-utilised area of accounting, largely because it is misunderstood by business owners. As many of the businesses in the Clare Valley are family owned and operated or co-located, the CVDA has recruited a number of businesses for a case study to explore how management accounting is currently being used, how it could be used more effectively, or introduced into operational aspects of the business. ACCT2006- Blassen Distillers is a distillery run by Paul and Mary Blassen. They specialise in gin and gin varieties and have won awards for their spirits. They operate a tasting room, have heritage buildings and gardens for visitors, and live on the property. They are members of the Australian Distillers Association. ACCT2006
- Sophie’s Dream is a small café in Penwortham (along the Clare Valley Food Trail). Sophie’s Dream was started by Sophie Dunleavy in 1990 and specialises in farm-to-table cuisine. Sophie and her partner David own a farm in the area and the café is in a converted stable by the road.
