NZ Mega Malls Ltd (NZMM Ltd) is a big New Zealand company which designed and built a series of 6 Mega Malls in different locations around New Zealand. It wanted all six Mega Malls to be open for the NZ Mega Mall Grand Opening on 1 February 2010. The Grand Opening was intended to be a huge event to promote the Mega Malls, with prizes and entertainment, live television coverage and the Prime Minister officially attending the Auckland opening.

The Auckland Mega Mall is based in Mt Albert. Due to problems obtaining approval to build the mall, the start of the construction was delayed. The construction of the Auckland Mega Mall was allowed only 6 months for completion before the Grand Opening.

Jones Construction Ltd (JC Ltd) is a building and construction company which was contracted to work on the Auckland Mega Mall project in Mt Albert. It was responsible for building, plumbing, wiring and fitting the buildings that house the Mall’s food court and toilets.

JC Ltd employed a project manager, 5 builders, an electrician and three plumbers to perform work on the building of the food court and toilets. The project manager received the plans for the building, plumbing and electrical work to be carried out on the buildings. He allocated this work to the workers. The project was very rushed, with the workers working long hours to try and get the building ready for the Grand Opening
