Task Description
Task 1
Configure the Windows 2012 server.
You will use LON-SRV3 which you deployed in Part 1 of this assessment to complete this task.
Adatum is providing Northern Mining with one of their servers (LON-SRV3) which you will reconfigure for Northern Mining. The server will be part of the Adatum.com forest but will be the root server for the Northern Mining domain - NorthMine.com
Task 2
You will backup the server to LON-SRV1. You monitor the performance of the CPU and network adapter during the backup to determine if there is sufficient bandwidth for the backup to run efficiently.
1. Navigate to Server Manager Tools and start Performance Monitor
2. In Performance Monitor under 'Data Collector Sets' navigate to Performance Counters. Edit Performance Counters and Add 'Network Adapter'.
3. Open the Performance Monitor graph and select '% Processor Time' for the CPU and 'Bytes Total/sec' for the network adapter. Change the colour of 'Bytes Total/sec' to blue. You should see one red line and one blue line on the chart.
4. Use Windows Defender to run a virus scan on NOR-DC1. Take a screenshot of Windows Defender doing a scan. Take a screenshot of Performance Monitor while the scan is running.
5. Create a shared folder on LON-SRV1 with appropriate access to backup NOR-DC1.
6. Configure and perform a backup of NOR-DC1 system state and data to LON-SRV1 using Server Backup. Take a screenshot of the backup in progress. Take a screenshot of Performance Monitor while the backup is running.
7. Perform a restore of data and system state to NOR-DC1. Take a screenshot of the restore in progress. Take a screenshot of Performance Monitor while the restore is running.
Task 3
Write your answers to the following questions (use a word processor and upload your answers).
1. While doing Task 2 did you identify any performance issues with the hardware or network? Explain your answer?
2. Describe any problems or issues you encountered when performing Part 1 and Part 2 Task 1 of this assessment and how you resolve these?
3. Read the "Information Security Access Control Procedure" provided (in the files section at the bottom of this page). Determine if the user access, user accounts and passwords that you created while setting up the server comply with the requirements of this procedure. Describe any non-compliance with the current security setup.
Describe how you would rectify the non-compliance.
4. List 4 environmental threats to server function and say how each of these risks could be managed.
5. Consider the following scenario and recommend a solution that uses virtualisation technologies.
1. Your organisation has remote workers that need to access information in the company database and files that are located on the company’s file server. This information is confidential. Data and files must never be stored on the remote worker’s system or device. The data and files must never be transported over a network to the remote worker’s system or device. The remote worker may sometimes need to use a tablet or a smartphone to access the organisation's information.
2. What solution would you recommend to satisfy these requirements? Explain why you chose this solution and the benefits of the solution.
6. Review the Australian Government Cloud Computing Strategic Direction Paper and list 6 points covered by the paper that will direct Government policy and guidelines in relation to the use of cloud services including desktop and server virtualisation.
7. Throughout this course, you have been using virtualisation technologies and virtual machines to do your labs. Record the following information about your lab environment:
1. Create a table to record the name of each virtual machine you have in your lab pod and the resources allocated to each virtual machine including hard disk space, RAM, CPU, NIC’s, the networks it is attached to, and the operating system installed.
2. At the top of the screen, navigate to Inventory – Hosts and Clusters. Select the first host (10.10.40.43). Select the summary tab. Record the following information: Manufacturer, Model, CPU Cores, Processor type, Licence, Processor sockets, Cores per socket, Logical processors, Number of NIC’s. Under the storage section, right-click on each datastore, select properties and record the name and total capacity of each. Record the same information for the second host.
8. Research the following virtualization technologies.

1. Join LON-CL1 to the NorthMine.com domain
2. Log on to NorthMine.com from LON-CL1 and access the shared folders.
3. Record the access each user has to each folder in the attached User Access Table below. Upload the completed table with your submission.
Task 5
You will take inventory of your network and all the devices connected to it.
1. Logon to LON-CL1. Mount the Spiceworks iso from the utility folder on the TRAINING-SAN datastore and install Spiceworks.
2. Perform a network scan to create a mapping of your network.
3. Take a screenshot of your network inventory and include it with your submission.
