Report Writing : During the semester, you will produce three reports on: 1.Work systems and methods engineering. 2.Management of work systems. 3.Human factors of work systems. Process : For each report, you are to write approximately 1500 words, not including references: a) On the unit’s web page—accessible through Blackboard—read the notes and view the videos under “illustrations from the automobile industry”. The illustrations provide some background to the historical evolution of work systems. Most importantly, the videos on the production lines for car body and engine assembly show a wide variety of function allocation between humans and machines. b) For each report, you are to compare the production techniques in relation to as many concepts that you can apply from the material covered by the lecturer for the topic of the report. In comparing the various forms of production, you are to present argumentation on limits and strengths of the various systems. To support your argument you must provide support for your position using suitable scientific articles. Use only refereed journals and refereed conference proceedings. No books can be used except Groover. c) Citations and references must comply with the APA (American Psychological Association) Citation Style. Information regarding these styles is available from the subject’s web page accessed through Blackboard. d) You must take due regard of the Swinburne policy on plagiarism (http://www.swinburne.edu.au/ltas/plagiarism/). In particular, take note of comments regarding paraphrasing, referencing and citing other people’s work. e) Include copies of the journal articles that you consulted as pdf files on a CD that isplaced in an envelope attached to your report.
