Assignment Task:

The extensive use of electronics has revolutionized the implementation and scope of many features and functions in a modern automobile. This automotive electronic
revolution has significantly improved the performance and reliability of the automobiles. Contemporary automobiles use a vast array of modern technologies to improve
performance and reduce costs.Inparticular, the use of embedded microprocessors and operating systems has improved the performance of non-real-time and real-time
systems in an automobile.
This assignmentis designed to evaluate students’capabilityto critically apply knowledge gained during the module.Part-A of the assignment requires the student to
develop a critical debate regarding multicore processors acceptance in automobile applications.Part-B and Part-C of the assignment require the student to conceptualize,
design, program and implement an Obstacle Detection and Alert System (ODAS) for an automobile.
Part–A- AEL503

Multiple-coreprocessors have been available in personal computers since the late 1990s.Multi-core design addressed the problem that processors hit the ceiling of their physical limitations in terms of their clock speeds and how effectively they could be cooled and still maintain accuracy.By moving to additional cores on a single processor chip, manufacturers avoided problems with the clock speeds by effectively multiplying the amount of data that could be handled by the CPU.

The report should emphasize the following:
A.1. Introduction.
A.2. Differences between single and multi-core processors along with their advantages and disadvantages in automobile applications.

A.3. Modifications required to use multi-core processors in existing vehicles.
A.4. Stance taken and Justification.
A.5. Conclusion.

Part- B- AEL503

Obstacle Detection and Alert System (ODAS) is the most essential component in a car’s safety management system. The objective of the system is to detect the
obstacles with in a setrange and alert the driver in critical conditions.
Problem Statement
In this part of the assignment, the students are required to designan ODAS for a car and develop its software components to meet the requirements given below:
The requirements of the ODAS are:
i. The system should activate with ignition
ii. The system should be capable of detecting obstacles from foursides of the car

Perform the following fort he ODAS:
B.1. Identify the functional and non-functional requirements of the system.
B.2. Arrive at the design specifications based on the requirements.
B.3. Design the system so that it meets the specifications.Your design should include, atleast, thefollowing:
a) The high level block diagram of the system
b) The low level block diagrams howing the subsystems and their interactions
c) A flowchart that describes the functionality of the system
B.4. Implement the system.
B.5. Display the system results on the serial port monitor.
B.6. Identify test cases and test the developed code.

Part-C- AEL503

Software and hardware  co-design is an integral part of embedded system development. The over all functionality and performance of an embedded system can be validated accurately while it is running in an environment similar to that of its deployment.Hence,it is important to examine the working of embedded systems using appropriate hardware and peripherals.
As the module focuses on Operating System based ECU development, students have to develop the code for the system using tasks, priority, scheduling, and interrupt
services in the program.
Problem statement
Develop the hardware for the ODAS designed in Part B above with an appropriate micro controller with FreeRTOS.
The students are required to:
C.1. Choose an appropriate board and peripherals to implement the developed ODAS designedinPartB.

C.2. Developthehardwareschematicforthesystem.
C.3. Implement the system.
C.4. Identify test cases and test the developed system (performing unit and Integration testing).

C.5. Document the results with respect to identified test cases, analyse the results and draw conclusions.

C.6. Demonstrate the developed system to the module leader.
