Assignment Task

The International Civil Aviation Organization (2018) defines a Safety Management System (SMS) being a “systema*c approach to managing safety, including the necessary organizational structures, accountability, responsibilities, policies and procedures” (p. viii). Given the increasing complexity of the civilian global air transport system and providing assurance to their safety, ICAO mandated the SMS implementation for all airlines, ATC providers, avia*on maintenance organizations and airports. Consequently, each of ICAO’s member states, including Australia, must ensure service providers (or aviation operators) implement acceptable SMS based on the state’s acceptable standards (ICAO, 2018).

It is assumed that you are a new safety manager for UniSA Avia*on, and you have been tasked to produce a report that details EITHER:

1. How UniSA Aviaon can leverage technology (e.g., integration of Artificial Intelligence [AI] or adoption of Extended Reality [xR]) to advance their Safety Management System?

2. How UniSA Aviation can establish a strong safety culture for its existing Safety Management System?

Both should include a case study that is relevant to a chosen topic (i.e., either technology or safety culture)

It is worth noting that this assessment is intended to replicate an industry project aZer gradua*on where most problems/projects are oZen ill-defined with ambiguity and complexity that affect one’s theoretical knowledge building and quality of outputs. With this in mind, the assessment purposely only provides minimum explana*ons on what is to be produced as a report.
