Objectives
Media is a part of our everyday lives and has a significant impact on the way we think, feel and behave. The aim of this CA is to investigate, research and explain the psychological impact media has on us.
This assessment will test your ability to:
formulate a research-worthy topic in the area of psychology
conduct research to investigate this topic further
your ability to critically reflect on yourself and your behavior using psychology
Instructions
1). Think of a research question that is personally relevant to you. For example:
What is the effect of gaming on my social relationships?
How is my self-esteem affected by social media?
Do violent movies affect my behavior?
Does listening to music improve my performance in sports?
Do advertisements really influence my purchasing decisions?
2). How each research question has:
(i) a specific media-related context.
(ii) a psychology-related outcome or behavior.
3). Conduct secondary research by looking for 12-15 credible, academic sources on the topic you have chosen in order to answer your question
4). The library has a wide range of textbooks, e-books and e-journals available which you may consult, for example:
Asian Journal of Social Psychology
Media Psychology
Psychological Research
ScienceDirect database
American Psychological Association (http:www.apa.org)
You are strongly encouraged to get your lecturer’s approval on your research question before beginning your research
Cluster your research thematically in order to show 2 different/contrasting approaches or viewpoints on this topic
Your literature review should not exceed 1,500 words (including in-text citations)
5). Your literature review will be assessed on the following criteria:
Introduction:

1). State what your research topic is
2). Explain how the topic is important and relevant to you
3). Explain what exactly you wish to investigate or find out through your research
Body:
Literature Review
1). Find 12-15 relevant and credible academic papers on this topic
2). Cluster these articles thematically into 2 different/ contrasting viewpoints or approaches
3). Summarise the findings and the studies conducted in each paper
Conclusion:

2). State what you have concluded and learned from your research
