Situation Analysis (allow approximately 600-700 words for this section)
1.1 Background: (Allow two short paragraphs to provide the relevant history, context and rationale for the proposed plan).
1.2 Research: (using secondary sources provide relevant information/analysis of the issue, publics, external environment. This is a key section to show you understand the situation that will impact on your strategy and tactics.
1.3 Problem/opportunity statements (mostly like 2 or 3 statements is all that is required. Number each statement. You must use the format prescribed in week 5)
2. Objectives (allow approximately 150 words for this section) (remember each problem and opportunity statement has 1 or more objectives aligned to it. Set out this section out so it is clear which objectives align to which statement. Write these as instructed in week 5)
3. Target Publics (allow approximately 300 words for this section) (Describe 2-3 target publics identified in problem and opportunity statements and objectives. Use questions in week 5 to help you but don’t write this section as a set of questions and answers. Integrate your answers into a meaningful description of your target publics. NOTE: although targeting of publics is presented in Section 3 you should work on this section whilst doing the situation analysis – they are interrelated.)
4. Strategy and Key Messages (allow approximately 300-350 words for this section)
4.1 Persuasive Strategy
4.2 Key messages
5. Tactics (allow approximately 400 words for this section)
5.1 <tactic details & timing>
5.2 <tactic details & timing>
5.3 ... and so on. The number of tactics is for you to decide. But remember you need at least one tactic per target public. Your tactics should ensure you achieve your stated objectives. Avoid guesswork and make sure you understand your target publics and their motivations.
6. Budget Not required in this assessment. Please do not ask if this is included – it is not included. Simply include a statement with the heading: Excluded for the purpose of this assessment.
7. Calendar (Gantt chart) (see the study guide for presentation options) The Gantt is NOT included in the word count. This sets out your tactics and timing and your evaluation stages and timing. You must embed the calendar into your plan. You may NOT submit the calendar in a separate file. If you don’t know how to create a Gantt to present your calendar start with resources in Topic 6.
8. Evaluation (approximately 150-200 words) Identify the means by which you can evaluate your objectives and tactics: What will be evaluated? How will it be evaluated? When will it be evaluated? Draw on the PRIA Framework to assist you – consider outputs and short-term outcomes. Present your evaluation plan in a table format and including when each output or outcome is to be evaluated. You should consider this in tandem with your calendar.
The Victorian Domestic animal legislation allows for the welfare and protection of domestic animals, while also providing responsibility upon pet owners to register their pets for an optimal lifestyle and experience (Domestic Animals Act 1994). Since 1994 Victorian councils have set out on a mission to increase the number of households with registered pets to create safer neighborhoods and environments by running various campaigns (Jolly, 2018). Looking closely at statistics only 65% of Victorian households have pets registered with their local council in 2017 and as of late 2019, 61% of Victorians have registered their pets with their council (Animal Medicine Australia 2019). This essay will explore and analyse and evaluate the factors of the Knox City council in regards to increasing pet registrations in line with Public Relations research and methods.
The target publics in regards to pet registration within Australia lead into some very specific demographics. Approximately 64% percent of pet owners are female, and 65% of pet owners are from households with incomes averaging $50,000 or more. 70% of those are aged 18-24 years old. 66% of pet owners are aged 40-54 years and over three-quarters of families with children aged 6 years or older are pet owners (RSPCA 2020). These specifics in publics can help determine the methods in which a campaign can implement a campaign for change.
Throughout this analysis we will break down these specific publics and explore them further.
