Case Study 

The sky was a mix of yellow and orange, the sun was about to go down. In the car beside Alyssa was her mum, Sue. They continued to drive along the smooth road, Alyssa woke up again and saw a light in the distance. She instantly assumed they had arrived, until she realized a car was approaching. She heard the cars horn beeping. She was wide awake. She saw the headlights shine directly into her eyes, as the car was coming closer and closer towards them. It was too late. ‘crash!’. The car twisted and turned across the narrow road. Alyssa could hear nothing but sirens.

Alyssa woke up the next morning confused. She looked down to her legs, she could see both her legs in a cast knowing things weren’t good. The doctor walked in and she knew something’s wrong. she asked, “tell me, what’s going on?”. The doctor replied, “I’m sorry to say this but considering your conditions after the accident, you’ve got a long way to recovery”. Alyssa looked at her dad with sadness, turned her head to the other side of the room and could see her mum and was heartbroken to see her like that.
 
About two months later, Sue took Alyssa to a physio. Alyssa nervously walked through the big brown doors and saw people in the same situation as her. A lady with blonde hair and blue eyes walked up to her and said, “Hey, I’m Emma and I will be helping you from now on. Tell me a little bit about yourself”. “I’m Alyssa and I like to play softball and my dream is to one day play in the Olympics” replied Alyssa. She knew from the facial expressions Emma made after she said her dream was to play in the Olympics, that she thought she was nuts. 

After many physio classes, Alyssa started to feel more confident in her strength and felt she was ready to play softball again. She walked onto the moist, green grass. She looked around and thoughts popped into her head. what if I’m not ready? what if I hurt myself again? what if I’m not the same? She started to run around the bases and felt great, she then started to bat and heard “you know your stuff don’t you”. “yeah, I guess so. who are you?” replied Alyssa. “I’m Clare and I’m inviting you to come and play in the 2019 china Olympics next month”. 

Sue and Alyssa arrived in china a month later. After a week of practising with the team and exploring the city, they arrived at the stadium. She looked around and saw a huge green pitch and stands filled with millions of seats. There was about one hour till game time, Alyssa was so excited to see all the seats filled with excited fans. The last few seconds on the clock were ticking, and the ball was in her hands… she looked around and saw the batter turning towards home trying to score the final point to win. It was like it all went into the slow-mo mode, she could hear the crowd on the edge of their seats cheering her on. she threw the ball as hard as she could straight to home and looked straight at the umpire. “OUT” yelled the umpire. They did it, they’ve won the 2019 Olympics
