The purpose of this case study is to analyse and critique patient-centred care (PPC). In particular, its application in the management and nursing care of Peter, 76 years-old male living with his daughter, who has got cellulitis on his left lower limb, caused by a laceration wound. He is also a diabetes type 2 patient with congestive heart failure condition (See Appendix). Reynolds (2009) explained that PPC focuses on the patient’s needs rather than on the disease or condition. In this case, Peter’s health needs cannot be satisfied by only cellulitis treatment since he needs continuous wound dressing and improves living standards based on chronic diseases conditions. This is why PPC would be appropriate in Peter’s case since it focuses on needs rather than disease or conditions.

To achieve the purpose of this case study, firstly, a clear identification of PPC will be explained. Secondly, the application of PPC in the case will be examined. Thirdly, how to use whanaungatanga in the nurses’ practice will be discussed. Finally, the relationship between PPC and practice in the general practice setting will be critically analysed.
