Background
A person’s ability to regulate their emotions is an essential component of maintaining mental health and psychological well-being. While there are many types of emotional regulation (ER) techniques, two of the most commonly used and studied techniques are cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression. While the link between ER and well-being has been well established, sex and gender differences in the use of the use of these techniques have received less attention.

Aim
The aim of the current laboratory study is to investigate gender differences in emotional regulation techniques cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression. (NOTE: we have provided you with this aim for you to use in your lab report – you do not need to reference this material or your teacher).
Note: We will discuss this aim in class and formulate our hypotheses (in session 2).
