Applying the sociological imagination, why are there so few females and minority voices in early sociology?

The sociological imagination can be referred to as the capability to visualize the manner in which individual experiences are defined by the broader historical and societal forces. The term was first composed by C. Wright Mills in 1959, in order to refer to the intersection of public issues with respect to personal impediments. The concept plays an instrumental role for gaining cognizance regarding the lack of female voices in the discipline of sociology or minority for that matter (Wall, 2022). Early sociology was predominated by white male scholars, who not only reflected on their experiences, but at the same time share their perspectives. From the academia, women along with marginalized community representatives were largely excluded. As a consequence of which the sociological theory was not augmented to a great extent, at that time; since it was bound under limited and narrow understanding of society (Wall, 2022). It is crucial to evaluate the gravity of contemporary circumstances in order to recognize the ramifications associated with historical execution of marginalized community from academic discourses, including suppression of female voices. On top of that it also behooves a society to be more inclusive in nature so that perspective from diverse community can be inculcated in terms of developing the society (Staubmann, 2021). As far as theoretical concept is concerned, intersectionality theory recognizes that experiences of people are prevalently shaped by multiple intersecting identities such as sexuality, gender classification as well as races. Aside from that it also highlights the significance associated with considering perspective of intersecting identity, all while intricately evaluating social issues. Hence, by inculcating sociological imagination along with theory of intersectionality, lack of female as well as marginalized community in the early discipline of sociology can be evaluated to develop a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the contemporary society (Seeger and Davison-Vecchione, 2019).
