Economy generated by Information technology has a massive impact on the future of the society and wellbeing of citizens. Information impacts every little element to every critical factor like resource allocation, distribution of income, growth measurement etc.
80% of the product-based companies are running on agile methodology, putting lean into practise will increase the efficiency and this is the major reason for undergoing this research. Limited or very little research has been carried out discussing impacts of lean principles in IT project management or software development cycle. Various software development methodologies like Agile, Kanban, Waterfall, Extreme programming etc. are widely accepted across and has been highly successful with project delivery time and customer satisfaction, yet Wasteful or non-value activities still exists in the project life cycle. This is the underlying factor which is considered and major emphasis of all the factors will be given to problem solving abilities of the lean principles in Information technology context.
CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
As indicated by assessments by analysts "the digital economy is valued at $11.5 trillion around the world, identical to 15.5 percent of worldwide GDP and has grown over multiple times quicker than worldwide GDP in the course of recent years." (Sanders 2017)
Projects are systems that are temporary in nature. They come with a start and an end date. Furthermore, if the projects aim to deliver value and minimize waste then they are known as ‘Lean’ projects. Lean projects are different from mainstream projects in a manner that they have different objectives, approach in the project phases, relation in different phases and also the project team members. (Ballard and Howell 2003)
Project management in wide terms is "the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements." Project manager is adhered to achieve the goals of project scope i.e., time, cost and quality and also to accomplish the standards set by the organisation for an individual and the project. It is his duty to coordinate between elements of the project cycle effectively and to achieve the project objectives in timely manner. (Abyad,A 2018)
