Assignment Task

This assessment will test your ability to undertake some of the basic spatial analysis skills you have learnt so far in this unit (Cluster analysis, Spatial interpolation, Geographic weighted regression).

The problem
The range of spectacled flying foxes in Queensland is very limited and in recent years there has been mass mortality events due to heatwaves. In this exercise you will assess if the population of spectacled flying foxes in Queensland is significantly clustered and test what climatic variables are correlated with their distribution.
You have been provided with the following data files
1. A shape file of Queensland state borders (Check the spatial reference)
2. Point locations of flying fox sightings downloaded from the Atlas of Living Australia (WGS84). Only include sightings within Queensland.
3. Climatic data drawn from 10 weather stations across the region and downloaded from the Bureau of Meteorology (WGS84).

Use the following climatic weather stations
i) Annual Mean Maximum Temperature
ii) Annual Mean number of days above 35 degrees
iii) Annual Mean Minimum temperature
iv) Annual Mean Rainfall

I have left the files in the raw format that is acquired from the online data repositories. You will also need to extract the relevant data, insert into ARCGIS PRO. Project the data layers into GDA94 (if required) for analysis, generate the environmental rasters from the climatic point data, and undertake regression analysis to see if flying fox distribution is significantly influenced by these variables. You may need to go back to some of the ESRI tutorial classes to see the steps to run an analysis and generate the appropriate model outputs.
