Part 1: (50 marks)

The purpose of a pitch is to tell your story in an organised way that is understandable to your audience. You are required to come up with a pitch for your innovative idea.

Refer to section 9.6.2.2 AND 9.6.2.3 of your prescribed textbook and ensure that you have addressed each of the points on what to do before the pitch and during the pitch.

Therefore, your answer should be in two parts: before the pitch (how you prepare) and the actual pitch (your presentation).

Your presentation should be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation (converted to a pdf document). Ensure that you practice your pitch before submission. Do not submit an audio file. Remember to convert your whole assessment document into a pdf to enable marking.

No extensions will be granted for this assessment. Before the pitch (10 marks)

The following points should be addressed.

  • State your audience and what they are looking forüü
  • Show that you have done your homework about your audience üü
  • What message do you want your audience to receive regarding your business ideaüü
  • A list of possible questions from your audience and possible answers for theseüü (at least one question and one answer)
  • Student to state/show if you practised their pitchüü

  • Explanation of the business idea (3)
  • Explanation of the problem it solves in the market (2)
  • Features and benefits of the new business/idea (5)
  • Why is it new/different (2)
  • What resources do you have to solve the problem/start the venture (5). This may include skills/expertise, infrastructure or other assets.
  • Describe the This includes target market, market size, how it operates, what credible share you can attain within a reasonable time frame. (5)
  • Indicate that you understand your competitors (direct and indirect) (3)
  • Include a business model, how money will be made, intended price and (5)
  • Demonstrate that the opportunity is a worthwhile investment that offers a good return. Risk vs return (5)
  • Description the total investment needed and how it will be used (4)
  • Conclusion and suggest what the audience should do next g. finding out more, going to a website, contacting the presenter, watch a video etc. (1)

Part 2: (20 marks)

Refer to chapter 1 in your prescribed textbook and for your business idea in Part 1 and identify 10 (ten) characteristics of Ubuntu that you will apply in your business. For each characteristic provide a brief description (1 mark) and a brief description of how you will apply it in your business (1 mark).

Deliverable: A PowerPoint presentation converted to PDF, no audio submission.

Part 2: Ubuntu Application (20 marks)

From Chapter 1 of the prescribed textbook, students must:

  • Identify 10 characteristics of Ubuntu philosophy.

  • For each characteristic:

    • Give a brief description (1 mark).

    • Explain how it will be applied to the business (1 mark).
