Assignment 2: Literature Review
The burden of diabetes for Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander people
A literature review is a summary and synthesis of published research in a subject area. In our case, the subject matter is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing. A literature review provides an overview of the ‘key points’ in each piece of research you review (i.e. summary). However, instead of simply listing the ‘key points’ of each journal article you review in an outline form, your literature review should reorganize the ‘key points’ into a thoughtful, integrated paper (i.e. synthesis).
Task: You will be provided with list of research questions, which relate to the topics covered in modules 1-3. From the list of questions, you will need to pick one question to explore and address using peer-reviewed sources. Using the available peer-review literature, you need to examine how your chosen topic affects the health and/or wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Importantly you need to critically analyse the peer-reviewed sources used. What topics or questions have not been researched in this field (gaps)? What elements of the peer-reviewed literature that you read provided good evidence for their findings (strengths), and what made you question what they stated (weaknesses)?
