Purpose & Overview Identify, clean, and analyze a quantitative dataset drawn from publicly available data on a topic relevant to nursing, health, and/or health care.

Demonstrate application of quantitative statistical analysis to a dataset, and articulate the methods used to analyze your data.

Present quantitative findings in written and visual forms, illustrating application of course concepts in working with quantitative datasets.

Part A: Methods Summary of a Quantitative Dataset

1. Identify a quantitative dataset from Statistics Canada

• Use filters and search terms to identify a data table relevant to nursing, health, or health care, and ensure the data table contains appropriate data for analysis
• Clean the quantitative dataset using approaches presented in class
• Create a measures tab providing detail for each data point

2. Submit entire cleaned dataset in Excel format. (This portion of the assignment is not graded but is important for your statistical analyses.)

3. Write and submit a 300-500 word Methods summary detailing:

• The research question/objective guiding your quantitative research
• Your stated hypothesis/hypotheses regarding the data
• An overview of the data source and specific topic of interest
• The key measures used to collect the data (i.e., survey items)
• Your proposed statistical analysis approach using two statistical tests learned in this course

Part B: Presenting Findings - Research Report

1. Reflecting on instructor feedback and drawing on principles of statistical analysis from this course, conduct two statistical tests from your dataset

• Consider whether your data meets the requirements of each statistical test
• Run statistical tests in Excel using approaches learned in class
• Assess whether your findings are statistically significant and note the test statistic

2. Optionally engage in peer-led feedback on your selected tests and approach to quantitative analysis. You can pair with another group/individual.

3. Write and submit a Research Report, 5-pages including figures

• Introduce your research, including central focus and research question/objective. Include your research hypothesis/hypotheses.
• Revise and resubmit your Methods section from Part A, including a final summary of your data analysis approach. Include full description of the data source, measures, and analytical tests used with rationale given the type of data.
• In your Results section, present the results from your two statistical tests in written form, following APA reporting guidelines. Include your test statistic and p-value, as well as your analysis of the meaning of the results.
• Design and present two figures visually depicting results from your analysis. The figures should be appropriate to the type of data and should add meaning and insight to your results. You may choose which data to represent in your figures, and you do not need to have one figure per statistical test (i.e., the figures can represent any aspect of your data).
• Conclude your research report with a summary of key results, assessment of your results in relation to your hypothesis, and importance of the results for nursing, health, and/or health care.
