Abstract
The use of Augmented Reality (AR) to achieve educational inclusion has been not deeply explored. This review describes the current state of using AR as an educational technology that takes into consideration the needs of students. Besides, the merging of AR with education has recently attracted research attention because of its ability to allow students to be immersed in realistic experience. Therefore, this paper reviews the research that has been conducted on AR. It shows an overview about the application of AR in several fields of learning including Medicine, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Biology, Astronomy, and History and provides deep knowledge about anatomy studies. This paper review and discuss the advantages of AR compared to traditional technology (such as e-learning and courseware) and traditional teaching methods (chalk and talk and traditional books). The review of the results of the research shows that, overall, AR technologies have a positive potential and advantages that can be adapted in education. The review also indicates the limitations of AR which could be addressed in future research. Our conclusion with evidence shows that having augmented reality in the classroom can turn an ordinary class into an engaging experience. AR technology provides virtual examples and adds gaming elements to support textbook materials. As a result, classes have become more interactive. AR helps students better remember the information they have just learned.
Introduction
Augmented reality (AR) can be defined as a technology that overlays virtual objects (augmented components) into the real world (Azuma, 1997). These virtual objects then appear to coexist in the same space as objects in the real world. Sutherland developed the first Augmented Reality (AR) interface in the 1960s and it was first introduced as a training tool for airline and Air Force pilots in the 1990s. Currently, AR is a popular technology that is widely used in educational settings. In this role, AR also has become an important focus of research in recent years. One of the most important reasons that AR technology is so widely used is that it no longer requires expensive hardware and sophisticated equipment such as head-mounted displays (HMD). The technology now can be used with computers or mobile devices. Thus, using AR technology is not as difficult as it was in the past. It is used today in every level of schooling from K-12 to university level.
