Background
The 2021 Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) report indicates that nationally 22% of children are vulnerable on one or more domains with 11.4% of children being vulnerable on two or more domains. In NSW, these figures are 21.2% and 10.5% respectively. The first three years of life, in particular, is a crucial period for later developmental and learning outcomes. Understanding factors that affect optimal development for children is important for the provision of ECEC experiences that best support the development of all children.
