2. Topic Modular construction is a modern construction method which produces modules in a controlled factory and erects modules on construction site. The major advantage of modular construction is that it could save around 30%-50% construction time than conventional construction. Many studies focus on designing an effective scheduling for modular projects, the results are based on the assumptions that installation activities are finished on time without delays and rework (Taghaddos et al. 2014, Lee and Hyun 2019). However, the delays and reworks are unavoidable in the construction projects. While some studies have made many efforts to track actual progress, using bar code, RFID and GPS to detect position of modules, these methods could only detect the delay problems in modular construction (Cheng and Chen 2002, Zhong et al. 2017). The reworks problem is mainly about damage of prefabrications and misalignment between the work-in progress and as-designed projects, which are related to the geometry, quality and position information of modules (Rausch et al. 2019). In short, the research gap is a lack of timely detection method on delays and reworks in modular construction site.

3. Objectives This research project aims to design a progress control method for modular construction, which could detect the current status on construction site, including delays and the tasks needing to be reworked. To achieve this aim, the objectives are as follows: (i) make standard criteria for the tasks that need to be reworked during erection stage; (ii) develop a progress monitoring framework to capture the digital data of work-in progress, develop a 3D model of the current state of construction progress. (iii) make comparison of the work-in progress model with the designed model and identify the differences between the two models. Based on the proposed criteria, confirm the delayed tasks and the tasks that need to be reworked.
