Task: 1. Assessment Overview: Aviation is still considered one of the world’s safest modes of transportation. In recent years aviation has adapted a businesslike approach to safety- systematic, precise and proactive process for managing safety risk called SMS. This report gives you the opportunity to use the SMS theories and concepts to analyse an aviation organisations safety management practices. 2. Assessment Instructions: A. Analyse Pel-Air Aviation’s reported safety management prior to their 2009 Westwind ditching off the coast of Norfork Island. Write a 3500 word analytical report on how Pel-Air should improve their safety management after the 2009 accident utilising the SMS theory taught in class. B. Minimum analysis’s must include: a.Hazard Identification of five items b. Complete a risk register of three items c. Checklist for assessing institutional resilience against accidents (CAIR) C. Based off your analysis and SMS theory, as a minimum, your report must consider the following: a. Safety policy and objectives b. Safety risk management c. Safety assurance d. Safety promotion D. Use an appropriate report format organised into the following sections: Title Page, Abstract, Table of Contents, Introduction, Findings, Conclusion & Recommendation, References, and Appendices (if required) E. The assignment must have at least 8 reliable sources of information, 16 if the student is seeking a distinction or higher.
