2.1 Introduction

After taking into account student feedback with respect to their hardware and software difficulties, and some concerns of students of safety to travel on public transport, VIT has evolved with the higher education sector in ensuring that no student is disadvantaged during this period of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Semester 1, 2020, the final examination will be a take home time limited e-assessment. The final assessment will be as follows:

a) The final assessment (take home) will be conducted online via the LMS.

b) The final assessment for each unit will open and close at prescribed times as per the timetable.

c) Students will have 2-hours to complete the final assessment in each unit.

d) The 2 hours will include reading, writing and time for submissions. As a guide students should - use no more than 10 minutes to read through the assessment piece; - use no more than 100 minutes (1hr 40mins) to complete the assessment; and, - use the last 10 mins for submission

e) The final assessment has been set on the LMS for a prescribed time. Submission for the final assessment for each unit will close at set times. - For example, if your assessment opens at 10am as per the scheduled examination timetable, all submissions will close at 12pm. Any submission past this time will not be accepted. - If and only if you suspect technical issues to submit your assessment though LMS, email your final assessment to HEFA201@vit.edu.au but it must be time stamped on your email before the due time, in this example by 12pm. In the Email you must state the assessment name in Email Subject line, the Unit Code: xxxx, SID: xxxx and Lecturer Name. Email submissions is via your VIT emails. f) No extra time will be given to any student to complete the final assessment. Students who access the LMS late will have to complete and submit the assessment by the end of the scheduled time.

g) All polices relating academic integrity and academic conduct (eg cheating, plagiarism) will be enforced as per normal practice for all assessment pieces.

h) All assessments will be screened by Turnitin Note - Project/research-based units may have oral examinations and/or presentations in place of these final assessments. Please check with your lecturer.

2.2 Eligibility to write the Final e-Assessment In order to be permitted to write the final assessment, the student should have been enrolled in the unit and should have completed the prescribed coursework in the semester that he/she is writing the final assessment. This may include completion tutorials, practical, assignment submissions and other elements that may be specified for the unit. In addition, students should ensure that they have paid all fee dues for the semester prior to the final assessment scheduled.

2.3 What to bring to your final assessment You should contact the Exam Administrator or Lecturer to verify what materials will be permitted in the lab / hall.

o Calculators Some final assessment may permit the use of a numerical calculator – please check with your lecturer / examination administrator what type of calculators are permitted.

o Other materials Mobile telephones must be powered off or set to silent mode

o Dictionary You may bring a language dictionary to the lab / hall (e.g., Hindi-English-Hindi, ChineseEnglish-Chinese etc.).

o Food and drink in examinations Food is not permitted in the lab / hall. You may bring water, in a clear bottle only, with any labels removed.

2.4 Allowable Help Material (Reference Sheets)

o Final e-assessments are open book in nature; i.e., you are allowed to use texts, notes, or other reading material into the lab / hall.

o If in doubt you should check with the unit lecturer to ascertain if reference sheets are permitted and if yes, how many pages of hand-written material you are permitted to bring to the lab / hall.

o Reference sheets/books/texts or other reading material should not be shared with other students during final assessment.

2.5 Final e-Assessment Resources

o The final assessment will be conducted using the Learning Management System (LMS).

o Good quality Internet connection/Wifi with appropriate bandwidth is essential.

o A computer or laptop is essential for the duration of your final assessment.

o Mobile or smart phone must not be used for your final assessment.
