1 Project Summary
1.1 Background
Each year, there are hundreds of car accidents on Irish roads. These crashes claim many lives, and cost lot of money. Imposing strict road rules have helped to reduce the number of accident and fatalities in the likes of collisions, side swipes and much more several type of accident.
Accidents occur while merging or changing lanes, as well as driving off the roads that are more difficult to prevents because they occur when vehicles depart the road due to either motorist distraction. Lane Line detection is a critical component for self-driving cars. Therefore, as part of a solution to prevent such crashes, I would like come up with an idea to save lives of billions of Irish by designing a road lane warning systems, using concepts of computer vision with modules such as OpenCV library, (a system that uses Machine learning to monitor lane markings and detect when a vehicle is drifting out of its lane of traffic in real-time) and perhaps deep learning.
When the system detect that a vehicle is moving out of its lane, an warning system (such as an audio, visual, or other alert) will notify the motorist of the accidental lane change so the motorist would be able to manoeuvre the vehicle back into its initial lane.
This concept is used to describe the path for self driving cars and to avoid the risk of getting in another lane. The project will focus on the research outcomes of how these systems predict when the driver is in danger of departing the road and trigger an alarm to warn the driver early enough so they have time to reacts.
1.2 Objectives
The goals for this project are to build a machine learning model to detect lane lines. To detect the lane, the system must detect the white markings on both sides on the lane.
The system to predict when the driver is in danger of departing the road and trigger an alarm to warn the driver.
While identifying white lines are the objective, if the line detection system works if time permits, I could perhaps trail a model with no line marking etc for add features/complexity to the project.
1.3 Prototyping and Testing
The system would improve traffic safety significantly. It should be to detect whenever the driver is about to get out of lane and send an alert
1.4 Data Requirements
I have my own data generated to achieve this objective.
1.5 Risk Assessment
To describe the overall process, I will have to identify risk factors that have potential to cause harm. I will need to analyse and evaluate the risk. Misunderstanding the correct system false alert may occur False predicting un-intended lane A short time alert penalises the driver to react and prevent the hazards.
2 Project Methodology
2.1 Introduction
The number of vehicles increase and the population growth, thus crashes and fatalities are becoming regular. I will be using a lane detection system to locate the exact position of the vehicle within the lane line.
2.2 Project Approach
The approach intends to supervise whether an out of lane situation occur to warn the driver so collisions can be avoided where necessary.

I will have a collection of activities within this project as goal oriented. Each phase should be split into sub-phrases.
3.2 Deliverables and Milestones
This project must advance towards obtaining its end purposes. To be able to warn the driver out of lane is a steppingstone that must be reached. And this process must produce measurable result.
